Phaung Taw villager arrested by junta

HURFOM: On October 1st, 2024, the military junta arrested a 20-year-old man from Phaung Taw village, Kan Bauk area, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.
According to a source close to the family, Ko Than Htike was riding his motorbike on the village road when he was stopped by the junta troops hiding beside the road. After checking his mobile phone, the troops accused them of having contact with the People’s Defense Force and arrested him.
“He was first detained at the Mawrawaddy Navy Command and later sent to the Dawei Prison. His father went to visit him upon learning he had a hearing in the prison court. They can send “things” to him but haven’t been allowed to meet him,” said the source.
His family members have not been informed what Ko Than Htike has been charged with.
In August, 2024, the Mawrawaddy Navy Command arrested two Phaung Taw villagers at their home, detained and interrogated them. They have not been released as of October 7th.
“Family members are trying to contact him. They’re allowed to send “things” to him but not allowed to meet him,” said a local source.
On June 19th, 2024, the Mawrawaddy Navy Command said the PDF invaded the village school in Phaung Taw village and arrested four residents.
In 2024, two men and six women from Phaung Taw village were sentenced under the Anti-Terrorist Act after being arrested by the Mawrawaddy Navy Command.
