July 24, 2024

HURFOM: On July 19, 2024, approximately 80 troops from the military junta stationed in Long Lone Town, Tanintharyi, launched a military operation targeting Nyin Maw and Nyin Boat villages. The operation resulted in an armed clash with the People Defense Force at the entrance road to T Zit Beach, near Nyin Boat village.

Following the clash, the junta troops burned down three houses in Nyin Maw village, Launglon Township, western Dawei.

“Before the clash, they arrested eight migrant workers from ‘See Ohm Taw’ in Nyin Maw village and seized nine motorbikes. They burned down the houses after the clash in Nyin Boat. All the arrested individuals have now been released,” said a Nyin Maw resident.

The junta troops also shot a 30-year-old man from Nyin Maw village and stole motorbikes and other valuables from the empty houses of displaced persons.

“The houses were burnt down, but the owners had already run away, so they were not harmed,” reported a local villager.

The military operation continued from Nyin Boat village to God Inn, Pain Nell Taw, and Yebyu villages. On July 20, the regiment marched into Ka Dat Nage, Ka Dat Gyi, and Ra Thane villages.

According to recent weekly analysis by HURFOM, the human rights situation in Burma’s Tanintharyi region has deteriorated significantly. The military junta has intensified its operations, resulting in numerous human rights violations. Villages are frequently targeted, leading to forced displacements, arbitrary arrests, and the destruction of property. The military’s actions have caused widespread fear and insecurity among the local population, with many residents fleeing their homes to avoid violence and persecution. These ongoing violations highlight the urgent need for international attention and intervention to protect the rights and safety of civilians in the Tanintharyi region.
