Junta claims compensation from local villagers for three cars destroyed by resistance forces

On May 3rd, 2024, three cars owned by the military junta were destroyed by the resistance forces at Ka Doe Sate village, Kaw Dut village truck, Ye Township, Mon State.  Junta representatives told the Administrator that the local villagers must pay compensation in the amount of 30 million MMK for the damage.

The Kaw Dut Administrator summoned the villagers and explained the compensation claimed by the junta. The villagers are afraid the soldiers will burn down their village if they refuse to pay the compensation. So, the villagers are planning to pay the money. Some say the compensation is already paid,” said a local source.

After their cars were destroyed, the military regiment based in Ka Lar Gote Island launched three artillery attacks on Ka Doe Sate village and destroyed a house.

Upon learning that their cars were destroyed, they launched three artillery attacks from Ka Lar Gote. A house was burnt down and destroyed. They claim compensation when their cars are destroyed but they are silent when they burn down villagers’ houses. It’s totally unjust,” said a local villager.

After the military base in Ka Kar Gote Island was attacked on May 3rd, 2024, the junta launched air assaults on nearby villages and destroyed some rubber plantations.
