HURFOM: On April 18th, 2024, the military junta arrested five residents from Kan Bauk and Phaung Taw villages, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.
Among those arrested, U Win Bo and his son were detained at Kan Bauk based Mawrawaddy Navy Command. On April 24th, the junta informed the family that U Win Bo was dead.
“The family members went to visit them on April 20th but they weren’t allowed to meet them. On April 24th, the junta phoned the family members saying there was an important issue to discuss regarding U Win Bo. Family members packed things to go and visit, but an hour later, the junta called again and said U Win Bo was already dead,” said a Phaung Taw resident.
The junta told family members that U Win Bo died of hypertension while he was held in solitary confinement.
“They returned the dead body to the family and released his son on April 25,” said a source close to the family.
Since early 2024, the junta has arrested at least 15 residents from Yebyu Township. None have been released as of today.
