At about 4 pm on April 24th, an artillery shell exploded at Ko Shwe Tun’s house in Kaw Zwell village.  The explosion killed his wife and injured himself and another local woman.

Ko Shwe Tun’s woman lost a lot of blood so she died after being admitted to hospital. The woman who was talking to Ko Shwe Tun at his house sustained an injury to her thigh.  She was admitted to the Mawlamyine General Hospital,” said a local source.

At 8 am on April 25th, the junta’s troops launched a military operation and entered Kaw Bane village. They launched an indiscriminate artillery attack during their invasion and killed a young woman.

We’ve heard that a young woman from Kaw Bane was killed by the artillery attack this morning. We don’t know exactly as we dare not go outside. We’re packing our things to flee home but we have to hide in the house as we’ve heard the sounds of gunfire. Now, we can go nowhere,” said a woman from Kaw Bane village.

The joint resistance forces attacked and took control of the Kaw Bane Police Station on March 27th, 2024. Since then, there have been intense battles between the military junta and the joint resistance forces in both Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State and Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State.

We’ve just come back after fleeing our home and faced 16 air assaults and artillery attacks on April 22. There have been artillery attacks every day. Now, the entire village has fled,” said a local source.

The military junta’s troops have stationed themselves at the Kaw Bane Police Station at the moment and the entire village has fled home due to the fear of possible armed clash.
