Six civilians injured by junta’s artillery attack in Thaton

HURFOM: Between March 27th and the 30th, 2024, the 9th Light Infantry Battalion launched 13 artillery attacks on Htone Bo Lay, Chaung South and Htoe Kaw Kyoe villages, Thaton Township, Mon State.  Six residents including two children were injured, according to the statement by the Thaton District Karen National Union.

13-year-old Saw Phyo Phyo, 16-year-old Saw Nay Lin, 23-year-old Naw Chaw Ta Ku, 56-year-old U Maung Htwe, 54-year-old Naw Naw Ye and 57-year-old Tee Pan Sein were injured by artillery debris.

They launched indiscriminate artillery attacks. There were no active armed clashes. Some villagers have already run away. Those remaining in the village are hiding in bunkers. There is no day without an artillery attack,” said a resident from Htone Bo Lay village.

Due to the junta’s artillery attack, residents from six villages including Htone Bo Lay, Htone Bo Gyi, Chaung South and Htoe Kaw Kyoe villages have fled to find safer shelter.

Including this time, the junta has now attacked our village three times. Without there being any armed clashes, they have intentionally attacked our village. Now, three villagers are receiving medical treatment as a result of these artillery attacks,” said a displaced person.

On March 23rd, 2024, the military junta launched an air assault on Min Saw village, Bilin Township and destroyed three middle schools, two religious buildings and 12 houses and injured a villager, according to the Thaton District Karen National Union.
