HURFOM: Since August 8, 2023, the junta has maintained a huge military operation in areas around Na Bu Lell village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.

Approximately 8,000 residents have had to flee from their homes.

A 17-year-old was one of the many internally displaced persons (IDPs) who hid in the forest and contracted malaria.  He died on August 17 due to insufficient medical care, according to a young Yebyu resident.

During this rainy season, there are lots of challenges for IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons). Their main needs are food, shelter and medicine. The child suffered from malaria but there has been no medicine nor access to a clinic. So he/she lost his/her life,” said a resident who knows well about the IDPs.

A military unit has been stationed at the Dawei Special Economic Zone and Dawei Deep Seaport and they have burnt down houses in nearby villages. They also arrested about 20 residents, including women, and have been using them as human shields.
