Junta removes more than 200 houses labeling them illegal

HURFOM: The military junta has ordered more than 200 houses in Hline Ward, Mawlamyine City, Mon State to be removed no later than April 10^th, 2025 as they are illegal housing.

Junta soldiers, police and a ward Administration team delivered the documents supporting the order on March 24th, 2025.

“It is state-owned land. But the former military junta illegally sold the lots to the people. The people bought the land and constructed buildings. Now, they’ve been ordered to leave,” said a local resident.

The former military regime sold the land plots and allowed buyers to construct houses and buildings on the land plots. However, the new military junta has labelled the land plots as illegal residences and ordered the owners to leave the land.

“They sold land plots with a cheap price of 20 million MMK so people from rural areas bought the land because they wanted to stay in urban areas,” continued the source.

However, land plots which have been ordered to be evacuated are nonresidential and there are no buildings or houses on the land.

“Those who have money just bought the land (to avoid inflation) but did nothing with the land,” said the source.
