Four arrested business owners from Paung Township still not released

HURFOM: On February 24th, 2025, the military junta arrested the Chief of the Fire Brigade, the Vice Chief of the Township General Administration Department and four business owners from Paung Township, Mon State at their homes, after accusing them of providing financial and food support to the People’s Defense Force.
On March 2, the junta released the Chief of the Fire Brigade U Myat Ko Ko and the Vice Chief of the Township GAD U Kyaw Myo Hline; however as of March 11th, the four business owners Ko Zar Ni, Ko Moe Ngae, U Zaw Win Myint and Daw Kyaw Kyaw San remain in detention.

“The Chief of the Fire Brigade and the Vice Chief of the GAD were released but other business owners are still being detained. We’ve heard they have been interrogated at the Southeast Command,” said a local source.
Family members of the victims do not know the exact reasons for their arrest nor their whereabouts. Family members have not been allowed to meet with their loved ones
“All we know is that they were arrested by the 102nd battalion. Their family members haven’t been allowed to meet them as of today,” said a source close to the families.
According to data collected by HURFOM, as of February, 2025, more than 300 residents from Mon, Karen and Tenasserim regions have been arbitrarily arrested and detained by the military junta.
