HURFOM: On January 27th, 2025, a junta’s regiment consisting of about 80 troops launched military operations in Chaung Wa Pyin and nearby villages, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division.
The incursions forced more than 2,000 residents from seven villages to flee their homes. Chaung Wa Pyin, Tha Yet Pin Eye, Ye Cho Chaung, Gon Nyin Sake, Si Taw and Chauk Chaung villages were all impacted.
“The residents from nearby villages run away. We were told, ‘the military is already in the village. Everyone must run away,’ so we collected our packages and ran away. We also heard the sound of artillery attacks in the village this morning,” said one displaced woman.
Only 100 displaced villagers have found safe shelter in the Taung Pyauk Displaced Camp. The rest are hiding in nearby mountains, forests and plantations.
“The entire village population was targeted by the military operation and everyone ran away. Some residents, from nearby villages, fearing attacks would reach them, also fled their homes” said a social worker from the Taung Pyauk Displaced Camp.
The regiment arrested and detained nearly 20 residents from Chaung Wa Pyin village. They were eventually released only after the village Abbot requested their release.
Currently, the regiment is stationed at the Pagoda Hill in Tha Yet Pin Eye village and a government school in Gon Nyin Sake village and has launched military operations on nearby villages.
