Junta burns houses in Kyauk Ne Maw: Displaced villagers unable to return home

HURFOM: On December 24th, 2024, an armed clash took place between the military junta and the People’s Defense Force in Kyauk Ne Maw village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division. The junta’s artillery attack burnt down and destroyed 280 houses in the village.
“Kyauk Ne Maw looks like an abandoned village. Some residents moved to Dawei City. There are 400 villagers of 95 households fleeing to Myin Khwar Or village. They dare not return, so they have to take a permanent shelter in Myin Khwar Or,” said a social worker who helped the displaced villagers.
An additional artillery attack from the junta’ navy unit forced more than 3,000 residents to flee from Kyauk Ne Maw, Out Kyauk Wat, Kyauk Wat Pyin, Za Lot, Nyaung Pyin, Taught Net, Kyuak Mat Tat and Kyat Hlut villages.
“The villagers from Kyauk Wat Pyin, Out Kyauk Wat, Kyat Hlut, Kyauk Mat Tat and Nyaung Pyin have already returned home but residents from Kyauk Ne Maw dare not go back to the village. The village is quiet like a desert,” said a local source.
In 2024, the military junta burnt down and destroyed 752 houses in Tenasserim Division and more than 400 of them were in Long Lone Township, according to the report by the FE5 Tanintharyi on January 17th, 2025.
