Administrators extort residents to hire security guards

HURFOM: The ward Administrators of Pu Law Town, Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division have issued an order that five residents from each ward in Pu Law Town must serve as security guards for the community fire alarm system and each guard will be paid 250,000 MMK monthly.
Then, the Administrators extorted 3,000 MMK monthly from each household to provide financial support for the fire security guards.
The residents from Ward #1, to #5 have already been extorted and the locals said those who would serve as fire security guards are close associates to the Administrators.
“We’ve already faced armed clashes. Now, the Administrators have made extra money creating a scheme for a community fire alert system. Every job is challenging in this era and the poor aren’t okay to pay that monthly fee,” said a local resident.
In 2024, the military junta arrested fire security guards in downtown wards in Pu Law Town and forcefully collected them as conscripts.
