Junta threatens donors who provide health care to political prisoners

HURFOM: The junta do not provide a good and fair health care system in prisons across Burma and it has also monitored and threatened individual or group or organization who provides health care to political prisoners.

“Political prisoners don’t have money so treatment is delayed. Some are in critical condition so their family members have to borrow money from their friends,” said a social worker who helps political prisoner.

In August, 2024, two political prisoners from the Dawei Prison, Tenasserim Divion required treatment from the hospital outside the prison and an organization who helps political prisoners donated money for the treatment.

After the donation, the military junta has been monitoring their organization twenty-four seven, according to a member.

“The junta had made an inquiry about the donors. So some donors are afraid of consequence and dare not make a donation,” said a social worker who helps the Dawei political prisoners.

Since February 1^st, 2021, more than 100 political prisoners from the prisons across Burma had died of insufficient health care in the prisons.

“There have been tons of human rights violation in prisons across Burma. All prisons have a very bad health care system (for the political prisoners),” said a social worker who helps political prisoners.
