HURFOM: On August 5th, 2024, the military junta entered Maung Mell Shaung village, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division and again burnt down residential houses, according to local sources.
Since early July, the 302nd artillery regiment based in Za Yar village has frequently launched military operations targeting Maung Mell Shaung village, and the troops have stationed themselves in residential houses.
On August 5th, the regiment burnt down 16 houses in Ohn Taw Ward in the eastern part of Maung Mell Shaung village.
“We saw a pall of smoke. Now, they burnt down 11 houses and destroyed other three houses,” said a local woman from Maung Mell Shaung.
On July 27th, the regiment burnt down at least four houses in Maung Mell Shaung and they also looted empty houses left by displaced villagers.
Frequent armed clashes occur between the military junta and the People’s Defense Force. Coupled with the constant artillery attacks Maung Mell Shaung residents have had to flee their homes since April, 2024.
