Junta’s troops loot more than 100 houses and arrest a villager in Maung Mell Shaung village

HURFOM: Between June 1st to the 3rd, 2024, junta’s troops stationed themselves at Maung Mell Shaung village, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division. During their presence, the troops looted more than 100 houses and arrested a villager, according to local sources.
On June 1st, 2024, a Captain from the military junta was shot and killed nearby Maung Mell Shaung village. This was followed by roughly 100 troops from the 304rth artillery regiment, based in Za Har village, Yebyu Township invading the village.
The troops looted houses, stole gold, cash, mobile phones and other valuables. Moreover, they also rioted grocery stores in the village, according to a villager.
“During the two days of their presence, the soldiers arrested ten men. They released nine on June 3rd when they left the village. The remaining detainee was accused of being a member of the People’s Defense Force,” said the villager.
The arrested villager was not released as of today and nearly the entire village has since fled their homes since June 1st, 2024.
