Eighth landmine blast this year in Yebyu

HURFOM: A landmine blast occurred in the Kyaung Shar Kwin area, near Alae Sakhan village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division at 3 pm, October 7, 2019.

A 35-year-old local resident sustained an injury in the blast. While digging for elephant foot yams on his plantation he stepped on a landmine and suffered a non-life threatening injury, according to Nai Tin San, the Administrator of Alae Sakhan village.

Locals worried plans to build a coal power plant may impact Land Use Rights

HURFOM: The military era of Myanmar’s history and current plans to build a coal-fired plant in Ye Township have come together to create confusion about land rights.

During the years when the military controlled the Myanmar government the Light Infantry Battalion LIB #343 and the Artillery Regiment #316 confiscated 453.12 acres of farmland along side Ni Ga Rote river of the Andin village, in Ye Township.  This land was not used by the military and local villagers were able to later get access to the land by applying for a Land Use Certificate (LUC).

Mon teachers instructed not to get involved in politics

HURFOM: Teachers appointed for Mon language teaching in government schools in Kyaikmayaw Township, Mon state, were warned not to become involved in political issues by Deputy Chief Officer of Kyaikmayaw Township Department of Basic Education, according to a Mon language teacher.

Civilian forced to accept compensation after being beaten by members of MPDF

HURFOM: On 25 September 2019, a resident living in Myoma 2 Quarter, Lamine Town, Ye Township, Mon State, was forced to accept compensation after being beaten and accused of being a drug dealer by a Major with the Mon Peace Defense Front (MPDF).

Local villagers oppose relocation proposed by stone mining company

HURFOM: Local residents near Danne Kyar village, Ma Kyi village tract, a Khawza sub-township, in southern Ye Township, Mon State, do not wish to move to a new site being proposed by a stone mining company.

Do misunderstandings of the parliamentary rules and regulations impair the checks and balances of the legislative and executive branches of government? 

HURFOM: 49 questions were to be raised during the 14^th regular meeting of the second-term of the Mon State Parliament,  but the Mon State government replied on September 17 that they could answer only 25 questions.
