Junta’s artillery attack kills two teenage siblings

HURFOM: On May 15th, 2024, the military junta launched an indiscriminate artillery attack on Zar De village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division that killed two teenage siblings.

The junta claimed that members of the People’s Defense Forces were hiding near Zar De village. Despite the fact that there were no armed clashes in the area, the junta forces intentionally launched an indiscriminate artillery attack on the village.

The Human Rights Foundation of Monland Expresses Concern Over Situation inTanintharyi Region as Burma Army Attacks Escalates

Over 6,000 people from Tanintharyi Township urgently need support as they flee ongoing attacks by the Burma Army. Residents of villages, including Thain Daw, Yay Pu, as well as in Yebyu and Tha Yat Chaung Townships, have been displaced since the escalation of conflict in December 2023, which was triggered by air strikes by the junta. The Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) is deeply concerned about the increase in forced displacement, especially as the military escalates its targeting of the most vulnerable. We condemn the attacks by the terrorist regime, which have resulted in the fear and isolation of the affected groups.

Junta’s artillery attack injures eight Bilin residents

HURFOM: On May 11th, 2024, the military junta targeted Down Yet village, Bilin Township, Mon State with multiple indiscriminate artillery attacks that injured eight residents including a seven-year-old child.

The 314th artillery regiment based in Zee Win, Bilin Township launched 12, 120mm artillery attacks on the village.

Junta imposes curfew and threatens villagers after navy base attacked

HURFOM: On May 3rd, 2024, the junta’s navy base in Ka Lar Gote Island, Lamine Sub-township, Ye Township, Mon State was attacked by resistance forces.

After the attack, the junta imposed a curfew banning people from going outside from 8 pm to 4 am in Kaw Dut, Ka Doe Sake, Hnit Ka Yin, Da Min Sake, Tha Pyay Yaw Thit and Car Sake villages which are within the Lamine Sub-township.  Additionally, junta-appointed village Administrators threatened that plantation workers and visitors who failed to file visitor’s reports would be severely punished.

Two local men arrested and other two injured during a battle in Dawei

HURFOM: On May 13th, 2024, the resistance forces launched an attack on the “Eain Shay Pyin” military check-point in Dawei City, Tenasserim Division.

A battle between the two sides followed, and the junta arrested two local men and launched an artillery attack on the village injuring two villagers and damaging two houses.

HURFOM: On May 13th, 2024, the military junta launched an indiscriminate artillery attack on Maung Mae Shaung village, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division and the explosion injured a civilian and damaged two houses.

After the “Eain Shae Pyin” military junta’s check-point in Dawei was attacked by resistance forces, the Za Har village-based artillery regiment launched 12 indiscriminate artillery attacks.

Board of trustees extorts displaced villagers in Ka Lane Aung

HURFOM: On May 10th, 2024, a military junta helicopter flew a patrol over Ka Lane Aung Town, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division causing villagers to flee their homes in fear of an air assault.

Villagers have taken shelter at a monastery called “Shin Koe Shin” Pagoda in Ka Lane Aung Town.  Surprisingly, the board of trustees for the monastery has extorted 20,000 MMK per displaced villager claiming the funds are needed to pay for room rent.

Thousands of travelers stranded due to the destruction of Kyone Ate Bridge

HURFOM: On May 11th, 2024, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and its allies detonated a bomb destroying the Kyone Ate Bridge near Shwe Yaung Pya village, Bilin Township, Mon State. The destruction of the bridge has stranded thousands of travelers, according to local emergency and rescue teams.

Junta launches artillery attack after bridge detonation killing two civilians and injuring four

HURFOM: On May 11th, 2024, the resistance armed groups detonated a bomb on the “Kyone Ate” Bridge on the Yangon – Mawlamyine Highway Road in Bilin Township, Mon State.  Following the destruction of the bridge, on May 12th, the junta responded with indiscriminate artillery attacks targeting Shwe Yaung Pya village, Bilin Township.
