Two students injured by junta’s artillery attack in Hpa-An Township

HURFOM: The Karen National Union has reported that on January 30th, 2024, two students from Pha Lan Taung village, Hpa-An Township, Karen State, were injured by a junta’s artillery attack. The township is under the control of the Brigade #1 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).
The KNLA has been battling the military junta in Win Tar Ban village, Bilin Township, Mon State. In response to this challenge, the military junta launched at least 30 artillery attacks targeting townships under KNLA control.
The 208th Light Infantry Battalion based in Kwin Na Win, launched two artillery attacks on Pha Lan Taung village injuring 15-year-old Saw Aung Tha Byay Hein, and 16-year-old Saw Nay Myo Oo.
“The students came to a football field near their teacher’s house. The artillery shell dropped and exploded nearby the house and two students sustained injury. One of them is in critical condition,” said a Pha Lan Taung resident.
The two injured victims were sent to Pha Lan Taung village tract General Hospital for treatment.
Two houses and a motorbike were also damaged from the artillery explosion.
