HURFOM: During an 11-day military operation that ran from December 26th, 2023 to January 5th, 2024, the military junta burnt down more than 30 houses in Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.

According to local sources, the destruction included, 13 homes in Layton village, nine homes in Sit Pyell village, three homes in Hnin Cho Taw village, three homes in Tan Lyin village, three homes in Ta Kyat Taw village and one home in Tha Pyay Shaung village, for a total of 32 houses, were burnt to the ground by the junta’s troop.

Since the second week of December, 2023, they entered Ka Nyone Kyune, Sit Pyell and Gog Inn and then attacked villages in the lower part. No one dared to stay at home. Everyone ran away. They went to Kyoud Pone and Ya Bell villages on January 6th,” said one villager.

The military shot and killed a young man from Min Yet village on January 3rd, 2024, who went to a farm to pick up snails.

When they began their military operation, they arrested villagers and forced them to accompany them until they reached their destination. It looks like they used villagers as human shields,” said another resident.

The military burnt down fishermen’s huts in “Phoe Phoe Kyoud” Beach on January 8th, 2024.

According to the monthly report by FE5 Tanintharyi, nearly 800 houses from Tenasserim Division were burnt and destroyed by the junta in 2023 — most of the destruction took place in Long Lone and Pu Law Townships.
