A Mawlamyine resident arrested due to criticisms made on TikTok

HURFOM: On November 4, 2023, the military junta arrested a 29-year-old man from Chauk Mile village, Mawlamyine Township, Mon State.
The junta has accused him of using TikTok social media to criticize the military junta. Ko Ko Htut took video footage of the barricade in front of the housing of the ministers of the Mon State government and shared the clip with his opinion on his TikTok social media.
“He was arrested at the newly opened “1990” tea shop in Myine Thar Yar Ward. The junta came in civilian clothes. Now, he has been charged,” said a source close to the victim’s family.
Ko Ko Htut was detained at Zay Yar Thiri Police Station and charged under section 505(A) of the Burmese criminal Act.
The junta controlled newspaper, “The Mirror” stated that Ko Ko Htut intended to destroy stability and peace of the State by his social media post.
According to the Association of Assistance for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the military junta has arrested 797 innocent civilians in Mon State as of November 5, 2023.
