Three young boys killed by landmine explosion in Thaton

HURFOM: On November 5, 2023, three young boys approximately 13 years of age, from Kin Moon Chone village, Moe Kaung village track, Thaton Township, Mon State stepped on a landmine and all were killed by the explosion.
They went to a farm in the eastern part of Kin Moon Chone village to cut grass. They did not die immediately. Due to the severity of their injuries, they bled out reported local sources.
“Maung Win Thike Tun went to cut grass and other boys accompanied him. Unfortunately, all of them were killed by a landmine explosion. Their bodies were cremated yesterday (November 6),” said a local source.
The military junta, the Karen National Liberation Army and the People’s Defense Forces are active near Kin Moon Chone village.
“No one dared to go to the field in the east of the village after three boys were killed by landmines. I don’t know which group plants the landmine but I want to request them to remove their landmines,” said a local villager who wishes to stay anonymous.
According to UNICEF’s statement on May 4, 2023, between January and April, 2023, 82 Burmese civilians have been killed by landmines and 306 sustained injuries.
