Midwife arrested and charged in Mawlamyine for social media post

HURFOM: On November 2, 2023, the military junta arrested a midwife from Nyaung Pin Sake Ward, Mawlamyine Township, Mon State who allegedly contributed to the “Civilian Disobedience Movement” (CDM).
The junta has accused her of supporting terrorism via her social media account with a post she allegedly made on October 18th. She was arrested at her home.
“As far as we know, the midwife shared news on her Facebook social media account, that the Head of Ye Township Department of Fisheries was shot and killed. She was arrested. Here, the police and the special branch forces are always watching the “CDMers”,” said a local source.
The post pertained to the shooting and killing of the Head of the Department of Fisheries U Zaw Nine Linn.
The midwife was arrested and detained at the “Economic Zone Police Station” and charged under section 505(A) of the Burmese Criminal Act.
