Five Paung residents sentenced to imprisonment

HURFOM: The military junta arrested at least 20 Paung residents and has made multiple accusations. Five of those arrested have been sentenced to lengthy terms of imprisonment, according to the source close to the junta’s police force.
On October 27, the Paung Township Court issued two-year imprisonment sentences each to Daw Aung Ne Ne Aung from Kywe Chan village, U Aung Min Htwe from Oak Tan Dar village and Saw Yar Zar Min. All were charged with breaching the Burmese Criminal Act section 505(A).
On October 31, U Soe Moe Aung and two residents from Oak Tan Dar village were each sentenced to five-years imprisonment.
“Five residents charged at the township court were sentenced. Three residents were charged with breaching 505(A) and were sentenced to two-year imprisonment terms while two residents were charged under the Anti-Terrorist Act and were each sentenced to five-years imprisonment. Other residents charged at the district court are still in the legal process. The final decision for those individuals hasn’t been made yet,” said the source close to the junta’s police force.
According to the source, another seven Paung residents were charged under section 50(J) of the Anti-Terrorist Act which has the harshest punishment of life imprisonment.
Five residents arrested by the military junta near Yin Nyein village in the second week of September, 2023, were not handed over to the police force. They have ‘disappeared’ and no one has seen them for more than a month, as of today.
