Grade-4 schoolgirl dies in drone-bomb attack in Kaw Ka Rate

HURFOM: About at noon on October 13, 2023, a bomb dropped by a drone exploded near the No. 2 Basic Education High School in Ward #2, Kaw Ka Rate Town, Karen State.

The explosion killed a 10-year-old grade-4 schoolgirl and injured three other schoolgirls.

“A bomb was dropped from a drone even though there was no armed clash. Four schoolgirls were injured and a grade-4 girl died upon reaching Kaw Ka Rate Hospital,” said an official from a local social and rescue team.

Ma Moe Moe Aye, was the name of the young girl who succumbed to massive injuries. Two of another three injured schoolgirls are in critical condition and were transferred from the Kaw Ka Rate Hospital to the Hpa-An General Hospital for further treatment.

It is believed that revolutionary forces were responsible for the drone attack which was intended to drop its bomb on the military unit base in Kaw Ka Rate Hospital Hill. HURFOM has not yet been able to confirm what happened.

Following the attack, a Kaw Ka Rate based military unit launched indiscriminate and heavy and small weapons fire targeting the surrounding area, according to the residents.

Parents are no longer sending their children to school in the wake of the drone bombing.
