HURFOM: The military junta’s constant artillery attacks on Kha Ywell and surrounding villages, Thaton Township, in Mon State has local villagers worried about their safety and livelihoods.

The 301st artillery battalion located in Thane Za Yet Township and military members based in Lat Pan village, located in Wall Township have launched between five to ten artillery attacks daily.

We’re attacked by artillery weapons daily. We can do nothing for our living. We had to rush to the bomb shelter as soon as we heard the sound of artillery gunfire. Everyone here has to dig a bomb shelter. The commodity price is getting higher and higher but we can’t do anything for a living. We’ll die of starvation,” said a Kha Ywell resident.

The military junta has targeted Kha Ywell, Chaung Wa, Ka Nyin Eye and Kyauk Pone Gyi villages of Thaton Township and wealthy residents have moved to Thane Za Yet and Kyike Hto Towns.

There are artillery attacks daily. Those who have money have moved to Thane Za Yet. We live here in fear,” said a Chaung Wa resident.

On October 11, there was an artillery explosion in Chaung Wa village that destroyed a house and a motorbike and injured two cows.
