Military junta kills villager and arrests residents after lengthy armed clash

HURFOM: On September 11, 2023, heavy and prolonged fighting took place between the military junta and the Myeik People’s Defense Force #1 near Pe Tub village, Pu Law Township, in Dawei District, Tenasserim Division.
Soon after the clash, the junta shot and killed 20-year-old Ko Yoke Soe, and looted valuable jewelry from his home. Then they arrested some villagers, a local source told HURFOM.
“The armed clash lasted for seven hours. The local military base and a navy ship launched artillery attacks to support their troops. When they retreated, they arrested some villagers,” said a local man.
Before their retreat, the military junta destroyed homes and looted valuables from villagers’ houses.
On the day of the fighting, the Myeik People’s Defense Force #1 unit, released a statement urging local people to be aware of potential armed clashes and to collect their important documents and valuables.
