Man sustains serious injuries from stepping on a landmine

HURFOM: On August 29, 2023, a local man from Ka Nyin Chaung village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State stepped on a landmine and sustained serious injuries.

U Aung San Oo and U Lin Nyne are rubber plantation workers from Ka Nyin Chaung village.

Both went into a nearby forest to harvest bamboo shoots. U Aung San Oo stepped on a landmine. His right leg was nearly blown off and his left foot was severely lacerated.

The doctor said his right leg must be amputated. If his condition gets worse, his left foot will also be amputated. Here, everyone worries about landmines,” said a source close to the victim’s family.

U Aung San Oo was sent to Thaton District General Hospital for further treatment.

On July 12, a 12-year-old boy from Thane Za Yet Town, Kyike Hto Township was killed by a landmine while grazing cattle in land between War Dat Kwin and Nyin Eye villages.

Since the attempted coup, approximately 20 residents from Kyike Hto Township have been injured or killed by landmine explosions.
