12-year-old girl raped in Thanbyuzayat

HURFOM: On August 19, 2023, a 12-year-old girl from Pa Nga village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State was raped by a 19-year-old man.
The girl was returning to her home from the village market and near the village cemetery, the perpetrator dragged her into a bush and raped her.
When the girl was finally able to reach her home, her mother noticed she was dirty with mud and asked what happened.
“It’s a rape case. Both of them aren’t native villagers. They come from upper Burma and are working here. The police have arrested the man,” said a Pa Nga resident.
The Thanbyuzayat Police Station have charged him under the Burmese Criminal Act, Sections 376 and 373 – which govern situations of rape.
