Junta shoots and arrests two motorists in Paung

HURFOM: At about 3 pm on August 18, 2023, military and police forces shot and arrested two motorists near the tollgate in Ka Dont Seed Ward, Paung Township, Mon State.
The two men are from Kywe Chan village and went to Paung Town by motorbike. They did not notice junta members were stopping to check vehicles at the tollgate. The military thought they refused to be checked and were running away, so they shot and arrested them.
“Normally, there is no “check and stop” at the tollgate. That’s why the two men didn’t stop their bike. The military responded by discharging about 10 rounds of gunfire. The two men were injured and arrested,” said a resident.
Both men suffered leg and thigh gunshot injuries. They were sent to the Paung General Hospital. The military has interrogated them.
As of August 19, 2023, due to “shoot and arrest” incidents, 69 civilians in Mon State were killed, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
