August 11, 2023

HURFOM: The military junta arrested Ko San Htun Oo who lives in Ward #3, Thane Za Yet Town, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State after accusing him of being a member of People’s Defense Force (PDF).

When checking his mobile phone, the military junta claimed he shared the activities of the National Unity Government and the PDF on his social media account.

The junta has also accused him of being involved in a “bomb explosion” in Thane Za Yet in early July, 2023.

That young man is working at a car wash service. He has no connection with any group. The junta can’t find anyone responsible for the “bomb explosion” so they’ve created a story and arrested him, said a Thane Za Yet resident.

The Thane Za Yet Police Station has charged Thane Za Yet under sections 50(1) and 52(a) of the Anti-Terroism Act. These charges carry the highest punishment — a life-term of imprisonment.

Ko San Htun Oo was beaten and tortured during his detention.  He was admitted to Thane Za Yet Hospital on August 6, 2023.

The Assistant Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) stated on August 9 that since the attempted coup, approximately 20,000 people have been detained.
