July 18, 2023

HURFOM: On July 13, 2023, the military junta raided a gold mine to the west of an oil palm plantation near Inn Ka Bo village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State and arrested 16 workers.

With roughly 50 soldiers the junta burnt down the workers’ barrack,  seized a backhoe and other machinery.

We don’t know why they made the arrest. Some said the owner of the gold mine supported the PDF. But that is not proven. Others believe the gold mine didn’t pay tax,” said a local source.

The workers were arrested and taken to the 44th Kyike Hto military base. Their families are worried about their loved ones being interrogated by the military.

The military junta also entered the Pan Thiri Agriculture Company and arrested its manager and three staff.
