July 17, 2023

HURFOM: On July 12, 2023, the junta arrested a woman living in Sa Yar San Ward, Bilin Town, Mon State after accusing her of supporting a ‘terrorist group’.

The junta alleges that the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), a Burmese legislative body in exile, representing a group of National League for Democracy lawmakers and members of parliament ousted in the 2021 Myanmar coup d’état is a terrorist group.

About 20 members from the military and local police forces entered the CB Bank in Bilin Town and arrested 35-year-old Ma Ei Shwe Zin, local sources reported to HURFOM.

She wrote a comment of “I miss you, Elder Sister. Fighting!” under a social media post of Daw Thiri Yadanar who is a member of CRPH and a lawmaker of the NLD (National League for Democracy). The junta has accused her action as a demonstration of support to a terrorist group and arrested her,” said a local source who is close to the victim’s family.

Ma Ei Shwe Zin has been detained at the Bilin Police Station and the junta plans to charge her under the Anti-Terrorist Act.

Since the coup, about 70 NLD supporters and innocent civilians have been arrested by the junta and most have been imprisoned.
