Commodity price sharply rises: Junta arrests vendors in Kyike Htee Yoe Mount

HURFOM: On July 6, 2023, the Lay Phar Tot Bridge which is on Kyike Htee Yoe Pagoda Uphill Road, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State was destroyed by an explosion.

In response, the military junta tightened security and conducted a thorough search of nearby areas.

As the transportation route was cut off, commodity prices immediately and sharply rose.

After hearing the bridge had exploded, everyone rushed to buy goods. The rich people have bought and stored goods — commodity prices have sharply risen,” said a villager from Kyike Htee Yoe Mout.

The area has run out of rice due to high demand and 2.5 liters of rice has been priced at 5,000d Kyat.

On July 7, the junta arrested 10 vendors who were from the base of Kyike Htee Yoe Mountain and came to the area to sell basic commodities.

After the negotiation by the Kin Moon Chaung Administrator, the detainees were released on July 8,” said a local source.
