Junta gives monetary compensation to victim of artillery attack

HURFOM: On June 16, 2023, the 310th artillery battalion based in Thane Za Yet Twon, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State launched artillery attacks targeting the community. One women was and four people were injured in Ward #1.
On June 17, officials from the artillery battalion and the Thane Za Yet General Administration Department visited the deceased victim’s house and gave a monetary compensation of 300,000 Kyat.
“Mainly, they came to say they didn’t launch the attack, instead they blamed the PDF. Then, they gave 300,000 Kyat for the funeral. But the whole town knows they are responsible for the attacks,” said a Thane Za Yet resident.
Soldiers from the artillery battalion collected the artillery shells scattered in the ward and returned to their base.
The junta’s indiscriminate artillery attacks have targeted civilian populations, resulting in injuries and casualties across Mon State. Farmers and workers have had to abandon their farms and plantations.
