One monk and three civilians including a child, killed in Kyarinnseikyi armed clash

HURFOM: On June 2, 2023, there was an intense armed clash between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army and the People Defense Forces in Kyarinnseikyi Town, Karen State.
One monk and three civilians were killed, according to a report from local rescue teams.
“The armed clash went on for nearly three hours, from 5 am to 8 am. The junta launched both artillery and air assaults,” said a Kyarinnseikyi resident.
Three artillery shells were dropped and exploded in the Ma Neat Yadanar Monastery in Ward #3, where a monk was killed and a novice was injured.
One artillery shell hit a house in Ward #6 and instantly killed two civilians. A child sustained serious injuries, and a local rescue team sent the child to the hospital, but he died enroute.
“It was very serious that day. No one dares go outside. The situation was getting stable around 9 am but then a monk and three civilians were killed. Many residents were injured,” said an official from the local rescue team.
