60 houses destroyed,  6,000 flee due to major armed clash in Jone Doe

HURFOM: On March 25, 2023, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and joint forces launched an attack on the military junta’s battalions, the police station and the Border Guard Forces (BGF) based in Jone Doe Town, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.

60 houses were destroyed and about 6,000 residents were forced to flee due to the armed clashes.

The military junta continuously launched air strikes and artillery attacks until the morning of March 27. Many houses in town were destroyed. The 545th and 546th Light Infantry Battalions based in Jone Doe also launched artillery attacks on nearby villages,said one resident.

At least four residents, including a child, died while many others were injured.

The residents who lived nearby the police station and the Burmese battalions ran away. But some were afraid of going outside and remained in their homes,said a local source.

Armed clashes are ongoing and serious.

On March 23, 2023, a nine-year-old child died and four villagers were injured as a result of an artillery attack launched by  the 97th Light Infantry Battalions based in Kaw Ka Rate.

The 6th Brigade of the KNLA also urged people not to use the Myawaddy – Kaw Ka Rate – Jone Doe Road on March 25th.
