Many young men arrested in Mudon and locals worry about sending them to military training

HURFOM: On September 1^st, 2025, an informant who worked for the military junta was shot and killed by the resistant forces in Mudon Town, Mudon Township, Mon State.

After the incident, the junta’s forces have tightened security in downtown areas such as Kan Gyi and Chaung Hna Kwa roads and entrance and exit of the town and arrested many young men.

“But we don’t know the exact number of the arrested,” said a Mudon resident.

However, the locals are worrying that the military junta would forcefully send the arrested young men to the 16^th Batch of the military training for conscripts.

“Now, it’s difficult to get substitutes for conscripts so the junta’s forces are targeting young men who go outside at night,” said a local source.

The junta ordered the ward administrators that each ward in Mudon Town must send two young men per military training for conscripts.

The residents had to pay five million MMK to hire a substitute for conscript; however, it is difficult to get a substitute during these weeks. Therefore, the junta has been targeting local young men.

Each household in Mudon has to pay a monthly conscription fee of 20,000 MMK to hire substitutes for conscripts since early August, 2025.
