Junta burdens delivery agencies — imposes more restrictions

HURFOM: Even though there has been no official announcement from the military junta, on August 26th, 2025, delivery agencies across Burma released statements that they had to limit the types of items they could deliver in some states and regions due to the instruction from the junta’s Ministry of transportation and communication.

In Mon, Karen and Tenasserim areas, electronic items with the potential for use related to ammunition, as well as power banks, solar items, gold, silver and cheques, items related to illicit drugs, mobile phone, cosmetics, medicine and commodities have been banned for transporting by delivery services.

Towns in Mon and Karen states are included in the banned list. We also can’t send the items if it exceeds three kg. Our customers are in different places across the country so how can I operate my online shop business?” said an online vendor.

Popular delivery service companies such as Royal Express, Wepozt Delivery and Ninja Van released statements that their services were available only to the customers clearly stating types of items they wanted to send, its weight, names of sender and receiver, company’s or shop’s licenses. They have no choice because the restrictions come from the military junta.

The delivery companies inform customers about what they have to do. “Royal Express” said they must open the boxes to check the items and the customers must clearly state the name of the sender and receiver and their exact phone numbers and addresses,” said a resident on social media platform.

On August 18th, 2025, the military junta unilaterally closed the 2nd Thai – Burma Friendship Bridge on the border of Myawaddy and Mae Sot, disrupting the flow of goods. Since then, there has been scarcity of commodities and the price of many goods has sharply risen.
