Junta increases momentum in collecting conscripts in Mon State
July 21, 2025
HURFOM: The armed resistance against the military junta is widespread across Burma and the military junta is in constant need to reinforce its troop numbers. Currently, the military junta of Mon State has been increasing its momentum in collecting conscripts, according to sources close to them.
The 15th Batch of the military training for conscripts started on July 14th, 2025; however, the junta has already started to collect conscripts for the Batch 16th.

Each ward/village Administrator is obligated to send at least one conscript per batch but currently the junta is pressuring the army and the police to collect new conscripts.
“The Administrators are the worst. If they can’t send conscripts, they are dismissed immediately. Then the junta pressures the police to collect conscripts. But the Administrators experience even more pressure,” said a source close to the junta.
The Mon State has fewer armed clashes than other States and Divisions and the relative stability favors the junta to collect more and more conscripts. The military junta has opened 15 batches of the military training for conscripts in Mon State which is the highest number compared to other regions.
“Compared with other States and Divisions, Mon State has nearly no heavy armed clashes. The junta has manipulated the stability to collect conscripts,” said a political analyst who wants to remain anonymous.
More than 200 conscripts have joined the 15th Batch of the military training in Mon State and as of today, more than 2,500 young men from Mon State have forcefully been collected into military training.
