Junta arrests Maw Ka Nin villager

HURFOM: At about 7 pm on June 16th, 2024, the Maw Ka Nin based 106th Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) arrested U Phoe Tote. He is in his 40s, and is from the 3rd Ward, Maw Ka Nin village, Ye Township, Mon State. The regiment accused him of having a connection with the Ye People’s Defense Force (YPDF). An excessive number of troops were sent to arrest him at his home.
“U Phoe Tote is a former member of the YPDF but he was dismissed from the group for a year. Now, he’s staying in his plantation and tapping rubber plants. He visited his parents’ house in the village on June 16th. The soldiers came to his house and arrested him on that day,” said a Maw Ka Nin villager.

U Phoe Tote is being detained at the 106th LIB and he has not been allowed contact with any family members.
U Phoe Tote joined the YPDF in 2021 but was dismissed by the group in 2024 for breaching rules and regulations of the group.
In December, 2024, the 106th LIB arrested three family members from Maw Ka Nin village at their home after accusing them of having connection with the People’s Defense Force.
