HURFOM: At about 2 pm on June 9th, 2025, despite there being no active armed clash in the nearby area, the military junta launched a huge air assault on Pine Yat village which is located on the border of Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State and Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.

According to local sources, the assault killed five residents including children and injured 22 others.

Pine Yat village is predominantly inhabited by Karen and Mon people.  The junta dropped five bombs on the village.

One of the bombs exploded directly on a house which accommodated a self-reliant school and the explosion killed five residents including three children, a teacher and an adult male. Another 22 villagers sustained injuries from the explosion.

We’re afraid of being attacked if we are studying in the government school so we’ve operated a self-reliant school in a house. Why is the junta so cruel to the children? What’s wrong with the children who just want to study? Now, children are dead and houses were destroyed. Many have been admitted to hospital and most of them are in critical condition,” said a local source.

The injured villagers had been admitted to the Ka Nyin Ka Tie Hospital with the assistance of the local social and rescue team. Most sustained serious injuries and are in critical condition.

The bodies of the five deceased villagers were cremated on the night of June 9th.

Five houses were also destroyed.

Pine Yat villagers have since fled to nearby rubber and fruit plantations. The exact number of displaced villagers is still unknown.

No one left in the village. but junta aircraft are still flying over the village this morning (June 10th),” said a villager.

On June 7th, 2025, the junta launched an air assault on Ohm Ta Pin village, Kaw Ka Rate Township and the attack injured five residents.
