HURFOM: Since March 14th, 2025, there have been intense battles between the military junta and the Karen National Liberation Army and its alliances in Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State and the constant armed conflict has forced more than 35,000 villagers to flee their homes.

Now, the rainy season starts and the displaced villagers mainly need food, shelter and medicine, according to a displaced villagers from Kaw Ka Rate Town.

We need shelter to protect the rain and medicine for the seasonal flu. We also need blankets, sweaters and mats,” said an activist who helps displaced community.

There has been a shortage of basic commodity and medicine in Kaw Ka Rate Township due to constant armed conflict, tough check and route blockage by the military junta.

We can’t transport rice and gasoline. We’re strictly checked. If we want to use an alternative route, it takes too long so we can’t get (food and medicine) in time. That’s why we have a shortage of (food and medicine) in rainy season,” continued the activist.

More than 20,000 women and children are among the displaced villagers and they need medicine, menstrual pads, health care and food.

Moreover, the activists for displaced community reported HURFOM that they were unable to document displaced villagers who fled to Gyaing, Yoe Ma Har, Du Rain, Thar Yar Gone, Thar Ma Nya, Mawlamyine and Hpa-An areas and provide assistance to them.
