Junta’s regiment threatens to torch abandoned houses in Yebyu

HURFOM: Since early April, 2025, there have been intense armed clashes between the military junta and the joint revolutionary forces in Nat Kyi Sin and Min Thar village tracts, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim.
Thousands of residents from Sein Bone, Yay Ngan Gyi, Pha Yar Tone Zu, Kyauk Ta Lone and nearby villages have had to flee the area.
Now locals report that the junta’s regiment is threatening villagers.
“It’s time to harvest juvenile betel nuts but we have to abandon our plantation and run away from the armed clashes. The army has threatened us if we don’t return to the village, they will torch our houses,” said one villager from Nat Kyi Sin village track.
Most displaced villagers have taken shelter at Pauk Pin Kwin village, or with relatives’ houses, or in nearby mountains and forests. They are all in need of food and medicine.
“There are no more armed clashes now but the junta’s navy unit targets Nat Kyi Sin with artillery attacks every day. No one dares to stay in the village. We had to flee from our village again this morning (May 7th),” said another resident.
Currently, military tensions persist in the Min Thar village tract and some residents are trapped in the village. The junta’s regiment has intimidated them to join the local militia groups and if they refuse, the regiment threatens to torch the village.
