April 25, 2025

HURFOM: At about 10 pm on April 10th, 2025, the police force and an administration team operating under the military junta’s direction arrested Maung Kaung Gyi and Maung Aung Min.  Both were accused of abusing substances.  They are in their late 20’s, and were arrested at their home in northern Mottama Kywel Chan village, Paung Township, Mon State.

The two young men were first detained at the Mottama Regional Police Station and then transferred to a “conscript collection camp” in Mawlamyine, according to a source close to their families.

The two young men were drug addicts. The police force knew them and came to arrest them. They were then sent to a “conscript collection camp” in Mawlamyine, a day after their arrest. Family members went to Mawlamyine to try and secure their release, but it was too late,” said a source.

After being transferred to the “conscript collection camp”, the two young men were barred from having contact with family members.

The military training for the conscripts in Mon State has now reached the 12th batch, and at least 2,100 young men have been collected as conscripts.
