HURFOM: On March 29, 2025, the 4th Brigade of the Karen National Union (KNU) arrested three young substance abusers from Thar Yar Mon village, Yar Phu village track, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division and extorted money from them, local sources reported HURFOM.
28-year-old Ko Aung Nine Tun, 20-year-old Ko Min Htet and 21-year-old Ko Lin Htet were arrested by the 4th Brigade after being accused of abusing substances.
“We’re aware of that those three young men left their houses on that day but we didn’t know where they went to. The KNU said they were arrested in a rubber plantation with ten methamphetamine tablets in their hands. The KNU called their parents and informed them about the situation,” said a local source.

According to a source close to the victims’ families, the 4th Brigade demanded one million MMK per detainee if the families wanted to release their loved ones.
“They demanded one million MMK per detainee. We explained we had no money and asked for a pardon. They said they forgave them this time but we had to pay 300,000 MMK per detainee and 900,000 MMK in total,” said a victim’s mother.
After paying the ransom, three young men were released on March 30th, 2025.
In Yebyu Township, the 4th and 6th Brigades of the KNU have frequently arrested young men from Yar Phu village track after accusing them of dealing with substances and extorted millions of money from them.
