HURFOM: With three months – from January to March, 2025, the Ranong Detention Camp in Thailand has sent back nearly 600 Burmese citizens who already served their prison term to Burma via Kaw Thaung Town, Tenasserim Division.
149 Burmese citizens were sent back on January 22nd, 2025 while other 200 citizens were sent back on February 24th. On March 19th, 2025, Thai authority dropped 250 Burmese citizens at the Kaw Thaung seaport.
Kaw Thaung based 262nd light infantry battalion accepted the Burmese citizens from Thai authority and forcefully collected them as conscripts. Then, they were sent to the 12th advanced military training school.

As the military junta has forcefully collected those who were sent back home by Thai authority, the joint committee of the Thai activists and the Burma Affairs Campaign have urged the Thai Government not to sent back undocumented Burmese citizens.
“Thai government did it for the security of their country but it is a violation of human rights as they’re already aware of what are happening in Burma right now,” said U Aung Kyaw, an activist for Burmese migrant workers’ right.
In 2024, the Ranong Detention Camp sent back 2,701 Burmese citizens eight times to Burma and those who were in the 18-45 age range were forcefully collected as conscripts.
