HURFOM: In Ye Township, Mon State, the Ka Byar Village Administrator and his cronies have been organizing gambling events in the area. They are also giving money (likely as a bribe) to the Khaw Zar based 31st Light Infantry Battalion.
“Before, we had gambling events when we had festivals but now, gambling events are organized every day. The Ka Byar Wa Administrator and his cronies are giving money to the 31st battalion in Khaw Zar and organizing gambling events,” said a resident who wants to remain anonymous.
Zee Phyu Thaung, Ah Sin, Kyaung Yaw, Ka Byar Wa, Yin Dane and Yin Yell villages of southern Ye Township and Lamine Town of northern Ye Township have a greater number of gambling events.
“Gambling events are widely organized in Lamine. Sometimes, the army arrests the organizers but they release them very soon. It’s a matter of routine in our area,” said a local villager from northern Ye Township.
Cockfighting, cards games, “Hoo Hey How” and “Lien Poh” dice games are commonly found in the gambling events in Ye Township.
Despite the junta’s martial law and curfew measures in Ye Township, cases of theft and robbery are on the rise. Residents worry that theft and robberies will increase with the emergence of widespread gambling events in their township.
