Junta plans to send undocumented persons in Thailand to conscription camps

March 3, 2025

HURFOM: On February 24th, 2025, 200 undocumented Burmese citizens who had served their prison terms in “Ya Noung Detention Camp” in Thailand were sent back to Kaw Thaung Town, Tenasserim Division, Burma.

There are 198 men and two women.  The military junta is planning to send those who are eligible to serve in the military.  They will be sent to a “conscription collection camp” in the Tenasserim Division.

The women are to be sent back to their residence. But men who are eligible for conscription are being collected as conscripts. Most of the men released by the Thai authorities are middle-aged. That’s why the junta collects them as conscripts,” said a source close to the matter.

The Burmese Labor Organization in Thailand has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs of Thailand not to send back undocumented Burmese citizens to Burma.  The BLO is asking for them to be granted a temporary amnesty, because the junta will forcefully collect them as conscripts.

In 2024, 2,005 undocumented Burmese citizens were sent back to Burma 14 times by Thai authorities.

According to the statement by the FE5 Tanintharyi, 149 undocumented Burmese citizens were sent back on January 22nd, 2025 and 200 undocumented Burmese citizens were sent back on February 24th.
