HURFOM: Since January 8th, 2025, an intense battle has been ongoing between the military junta and the Mon and Karen armed revolution groups near Kyone Long (old) village, Ye Township, Mon State. The military junta has launched indiscriminate artillery attacks and is targeting nearby villages.
The intense situation has forced more than 1,000 residents from Kyone Long, Well Zin, Well Bine, Kyaung Yaw, Kyauk Me Chaung and Chaung Du villages of Ye Chaung Pyar Region to flee in search of safe shelter.
Among them, 500 displaced villagers have hidden themselves in nearby rubber plantations and are urgently in need of food, medicine, mattress and sweater.
“We dare not take shelter in the monastery. If we make a huge crowd, the military will target us with artillery attack. We also dare not get back our belongings left in the village. Now, it’s winter and we need a mattress and sweater. We’re also in trouble with food shortages,” said a displaced villager hiding in a nearby rubber plantation.
There are no active armed clashes in the area at the moment; however, the 316th artillery regiment, the 19th Military Operation Command and the 316th Light Infantry Battalion have been launching indiscriminate artillery attacks targeting Kyone Long, Well Bine and nearby villages.
“There have been artillery attacks every day. Two houses in Kyone Long were destroyed by one attack,” said a local source.
700 displaced villagers have taken shelter in the “Dhamma Par La” Monastery which is in a liberated area controlled by the New Mon State Party. The displaced people are suffering from seasonal flu and are urgently in need of medicines.
