Nearly 80 displaced villagers suffer from seasonal flu and urgently in need of medicine

HURFOM: Since January 9th, 2025, there has been a heavy and ongoing armed clash near Kyone Long (old) village, Ye Township, Mon State.  More than 750 villagers have had to seek shelter in Dhamma Parla village, a liberated area controlled by the New Mon State Party.

Approximately 80 of the displaced villagers are suffering from seasonal flu and are in urgent need of medicine.

They are enduring rough weather and poor shelter conditions. That sick includes children, elderly persons and pregnant women.

The weather is too cold and the shelter isn’t good enough. So about 80 children and elderly persons are suffering from coughs and sneezes. They are urgently in need of medicine,” said one social worker.

Nearby hospitals and village clinics are closed due to the ongoing and heavy armed conflict and two mature pregnant women are having challenges to give birth.

At the moment, there is no plan for them. The “Well Zin” hospital has to be closed due to the ongoing conflict and if you want to go to hospital or clinic, you have to go to Blair Doon Phike (which is close to the Thai – Burma border),” added the social worker.

Armed conflicts are ongoing near Kyone Long (old) village and the military junta has blocked all village roads in Ye Chaung Phyar area leaving local residents caught in a crossfire situation.
